January Scrapbook Challenges

I’ve joined couple of January Scrapbook challenges. Here’s some of it that I’ve made…

http://websterspages.ning.com/ - January Challenge- A New Year, A New Technique!!

Mission: Try a technique that is NEW to YOU. This can be anything from creating embellishments to stamping to painting to trying digital. It doesn't have to be a new technique, just something you've never done before.

My takes: I used digital editing software to create layered text effect on photo (save money on thicker, lol…) before printing the photo out. Then I scrap the layout along the photo. It is a new hybrid layout for me and I love it! By the way, I hide my entrance ticker under the vellum envelop which can be seen as background too.

http://www.madewithlove.com.sg - Sketch Challenge #1

The rules as following;
1) Create a 12 X 12 layout
2) Follow all or some of the design elements in the sketch
3) Use any brand of products you love, in whatever combination of colours you like.

Here’s my take on Sketch Challenge 1, I rotated the sketch 90degree for my landscape photo’s placement. I like this photos’ graffiti background, it was taken in Yogyakarta (Jogja) street where we rented a motorbike to roam around the city. So I used a lot of transport & graffiti elements in this layout.

Sketch 39

My takes: A simple & straight forward layout based on sketch 39. I love these photos of me in front of the street mural in Yogyakarta (Jogja), because I wear the same color scheme as the artwork on the wall! Blue, white & black, which has turn up to be my layout’s color scheme too.

Sketch 40

My takes: I like to play Japanese coin machine because it is not expensive, simple to operate (make 3 turns only, LoL…) and come as a surprise since you won’t know what is inside the ball. This has inspired me to make the circle like the coin machine dial. This layout is about I & Eileen are playing the Hello Kitty merchandise’s coin machine in the street of Nara, Japan. It’s so cute, isn’t it?

There’s still a week to go before the end of January. I saw MWL come out with Sketch Challenge #2 and I am definitely on for the game. I already have picture in mind, just got to get it done before the closing date. Stay tune...

My favorite - FuWa

This is one of my favorite photo taken in 2006 when Beijing is preparing for the year 2008 Olympic. During which you can find these big mascots of Olympic game -- “FuWa” displayed in major shopping center. I like it very much because they are so cute and meaningful. I bought a lot of FuWa merchandises and I kept some of the FuWa’s cards which now I used it as embellishment. I also hide one of the cards under my photo which gives the description of FuWa design. Overall I want to present a colorful and cheerful layout and therefore I used a lot of flowers to reassemble to feeling.

Praying for the best 2010

I know I am kinda late to talk about year 2010 wishes. But the past 2weeks of unwell has made me realize how important it is to be healthy and have a financial plan to take care myself if I am in needy. It is a painful lesson but I am glad it happens now and it’s still not too late to make a change.

So I told myself to remember these New Year resolutions. 1. Stay healthy, do exercise. 2. Save for raining days, no more extravagant spending, shopping, gotta control own money (Sob sob… need to cut down my scrapbooking shopping, bye-bye Starbuck!). 3. Learn cooking (wow, what a mission!). Lastly, I wish I can be a inspire leader in work and develop my career further. Well, the result will reveal itself by end of the year whether or not I can to pull it thru. Meanwhile, I prayed for the best year 2010 and I believe I am strong enough to fulfill my dream.

You see, I really praying for it… photo taken in Kyoto temple, Oct 2009.

Special honor to Year 2009 creation

Alright, special pick from my favorite creations in 09… is… Tote bag alteration!
Received this cute little tote bag from the Celine’s workshop and has been keeping there untouched. Finally one fine day I give it a try with doing something sweet and simple embellishment. ** By the way, sewing really not my cup of tea, poked my poor figures so many time...

Looking back all the work that I have done reminded me how fortunate I am. I appreciate all the love ones & thankful for being there for me.

Year 2009: Top 10 LO in my eyes - *Travel* Categories

And here’s the top 10 LO about my traveling / trips to difference places for the past few years

1.I bought my first set of kimono in Kobe for attending Joan’s Japanese wedding in 2006. It’s Sakura blossom month and I was so excited! This is my first time participle the sketches challenge in Inspired Blueprints and this is also the first I trying to do paper quilling and incorporate it into a layout. I really have fun doing it.

2. January winter—a short break for 4 days @ Prague. Although I was alone, but standing in front of beautiful Dancing House make me feel like I have “him” as a company… can’t help myself & start taking photo with “him”…

3.Graphic 45 Transatantique collection paper inspired me to scrap one of my old photo taken during a day trip to Deutsches Museum, Munich in Jan 2007. Basically use very limited materials; one paper, one cardstock and some left over corrugated board. Paint it, ink it and stamp it, viola!

4.I make a day trip to Munich football stadium, where they hosted the world cup in 2006. I like the arena stadium at night because it was lighted up and change color! So I try to use simple, very graphic approach to bring out the beauty of the arena stadium in Munich. This is also my first time trying out Utee to make the crack strips at home and I end up burning my finger!

5. This is one of my old photos when I stay in China. I like the background that shows a vibrant night scene of ShenYang XiTa Street, which heavily influenced by Korean cultures. You can tell how lively the city is from the neon light, signage, and heavy traffic. So I used Sassafras papers, brads, AC cut-out Signage to reassemble the live experience of mine.

6. This layout is about my trip in Kunming, China. It show how much I love about travel and I like meeting difference people from difference background, cultures. Like their costume so much that I have copied it into my layout’s details

7. I find that this Webster’s pages very suitable for my old XIAN – terracotta’s visit photo “feel”. So for this layout; I overlaid a vellum paper and cut the butterfly to make 3D effects on paper. And I used the old coin that I got from China as part of embellishment too.

8.I fall in love with these Christmas window display in Osaka-Hankyu, it’s so cute and adorable!

9. A fun page about me playing in theme park at Genting Highland, Malaysia.

10. Since I only staying Jeju island, Korea a night, I was able to “squeeze” all my photos and entrance tickets, airline ticket into 2pages LO. Besides that, I also rarely do 2 pages LO, so I think it deserve to be in my top 10 ranking!

Year 2009: Top 10 LO in my eyes - *Daily* Categories

Well, after a long rest, I’ve recovered and back to the old me. Means, I can start scrapbooking again! In fact, I realized scrapbooking has become part of my life routing and I have done lot of layouts / albums last year which I haven’t shared it in the blog. So I decided to pick some of my favorite creations to wrap up my scrapbook journey for year 2009 before I move on to year 2010 projects.

Here's my top10 favorite *Daily* LO....

1.Photo taken during the boat ride back to Singapore, from Ubin island…

2. "Makan" (means eat in Malay) in our all time favorite restaurant – Bakezine.  I found the K&Company paper fit my theme very well, so once the photos & embellishment in place, Viola!

3. This layout is about our first picnic that we had in Sentosa, a simple day with simple food, but unforgettable memories

4. Silly us, posing with oranges during Chinese New Year

5. Photo taken by Kelvin from the car window

6. Enough of layouts about two of us, let see others... this one is abut my family like eating durian, that’s why I did it in durian color scheme. What I like the most about this layout is the candid shots that show how silly we are, but at the same time we had a lot of fun.

7. I pick this layout simply because this photo showing my mom carrying me when I was very little. I have no idea where or when the photo taken, but my mom does look very young and chic 70’s. So I dedicated this layout with simple method and titled: mom.

8.I always wanted to scrap the Graphic 45’s papers since the day I bought. I love the blue and motif of these papers but I have no cues how to kick off. Thanks to the May Challenge in Laines's blog, it somehow motivated and inspirited me to dedicate this layout to the greatest women in my life, my grandma.

9. A fresh freeze... see how relax I am....

10. How can I not pick up this layout! It is true me… I love shopping, I admit I am a shopaholic, I can shop all day long… especially during my 3 years stay in china, and I can’t help myself in such a shopper paradise. From day one I settle in with one luggage, I courier out 13 cartoons of clothes, shoes, begs to Singapore even after I did my spring cleaning.

Unconsciously I kept so many price tags… so, to “celebrate” my shopping addiction; I did a layout with these tags and match with an old photo taken on one of my shopping day in shanghai. I always wonder if I can stop buying and save the money, I might have become rich man. But too bad, I am a woman.
